Afghanistan Culuture


Afghanistan and India were two neighboring countries just more then half century ago. Before the partition of subcontinent, Afghans and Indians had a frequent exchange of business and cultural activities. Afghans had played an important role in promotion of Indian art and culture. One can find and see the glimpses of Afghan architecture speared all over the Indian Territory.

Afghanistan's culture has been effected by many features. For centuries, Afghanistan was used by intruders as a path to India and other central asian countries. Afghanistan is a part of more powerful and culturally rich kingdoms that left their heritage in the region. The culture of Afghanistan is the outcome of the royal and long history in Afghanistan abandoned by the Greeks, Persians and Indians.

Islamic culture had its effect on Afghanistan. Islamic strands were left in art, music, architecture and poetry in Afghanistan. Because of the continued fighting and wars of cultural values in Afghanistan has smuged in past few days. Afghans are experts in decorating their daily life products with art and manuscript.

Festivals

The Afghan culture is filled with a variety of festivals. An Islamic countries, there are cultural festivals in Afghanistan Muslim origin. Eid al Fitr (End of Ramadan) is the main festival in Afghanistan. The whole month of Ramadan as a month of purity and sacrifice. Muharram is celebrating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain. Eid al-Adha (Eid-e-Qurban) is also one of the holiest days of the Afghans. New year as Nau Roz on the first day of spring, celebrated after the Afghan solar calendar. Mawlud un-Nabi and Laylat ul-Qadr is also common festivals in in Afghanistan.

Buzkashi

Buzkashi is an important part of Afghan culture. It is one of the oldest games played in Afghanistan. Buzkashi means "goat killing" and the name was derived from hunting mountain goats by champions on horseback. The game comes from the time of Genghis Khan, one of the rulers of medieval Afghanistan. Provinces Maimana, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kataghan are the most popular destinations for Buzkashi. Because of holy faith, women are not allowed to watch the game. Tudabarai & Qarajai are two main types of Buzkashi played.

Ethnic groups

Society of Afghanistan consists of several ethnic groups, chief of them are Pashtuns, Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazaras. This Ethnic groups practicing different kinds of life, despite collectively in the region live in hundreds of years. Their lifestyle defined by the unwritten code, and they choose their leaders, known as Beg Khan or rule over them. Pashtuns or Pakhtuns or Pathans or Persian Afghans are the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is on among such countries where gambling is considered illegal. The Taliban government outlawed most forms of entertainment as soon as they came into power and since then gambling is forbidden by Islam. Food

Afghan food is magnigied with spices and rich flavor. Afghan food is largely influenced by Persia, India and Mongolia. Vegetarian dishes are not as popular culture in Afghanistan.
